!!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! 35,000$ for this useless pile of parts. You will NOT get far off road in this behemoth. You’d be lucky if the winch was actually hooked up. No 4wd. No AWD. RWD only. Check it -

Kinja'd!!!

What’s sad is for the price of the “customization” they could’ve bought an honest to god 4WD GC and be infinitely better off road. Because there is no way in hell this is worth 35,000. I can get a NEW grand cherokee for 35k. Oh and on the same lot there is a !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! . I know which one I’d take....

I'm genuinely confused on why someone would bother to do this to a non-4wd. Its not like 4wd GCs are uncommon. That bumper and winch have to be at least $1,500 together. Someone had to point out the uselessness of putting that much on a 2wd.

It gets worse. if he dealership is selling for 35k, I estimate the new GC + mods was about 45k. The limited trim level has an MSRP of 37k. wheels and tires were 2-3k. Winch/exterior accessories another 2k. Figure another 1k-2k for various add-ons and installation (because no one who does this to their “truck” can turn a wrench themselves). So 45k

The limited 4x4 starts at just 39k. So again do another 5k for proper wheels and tires, off road bumpers and a winch. And that is an actual, capable off roader. I wouldn’t do rock crawling with it, but your butt would be so cushy as yo effortlessly eat up muddy trails and just whatever came at you.

Yep. But base prices get into the mid 30s for most trim levels and the 4x4 option is just 2k more. I don’t see why you wouldn’t but then again I have a brain.

In the Jeep’s defense, the modifications are fairly “tame”. I’ve seen much worse atrocities for more monies...case in point, those stupid “ICON” Wranglers that Bettenhausen Jeep near me sells (they aren’t real Icon Jeeps, just rather “Rubicon” decals without the “rub” lol):

http://www.wranglerforum.com/attachment.php…

And that’s not even their worst (that’s the tamest one I could find)...the worst ICON Jeeps I’ve seen had light bars for days and were lifted as uselessly high as a bro truck...this is the Chicago proper/suburbs, there is no logical reason to have a crazy ride height.

They used to have a whole website for them, until the real Icon folks told them to stop messing with their name.

WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOW

That’s a bold strategy cotton, let’s see how it works out for them.....

But in the small defense that I an mount, that wrangler is probably 4WD, right? Surely if they weren’t a customer would’ve started complaining when they went for a 4WD system that wasn’t there.....

Yeah. It’s even spread to my school parking lot, where is a lifted GMC? Jimmy with 42s. Being the immature person I am, I was revving my car behind the Jimmy. The driver who wanted to show the car’s mad skilz floored it on a VERY protected sharp left turn. I’ve seen body roll but this took the cake. While passing the Jimmy on the freeway, I noticed something. A pack of bros in a lifted F150 that had an exhaust pipe the diameter of my head whooping to the lifted Jimmy.

Relax, the lifted idiocracy epidemic isn’t here yet. The drift bros are all over.

Indeed. Bonus being parallel parking should be easier, yes? For me, I have to worry about scraping a curb. A lightly lifted Jeep (or any Wrangler lol) probably could just hop the curb in the event of a mishap.

I guess then, the only truly surprising thing I’ve seen try to drive downtown was a Freightliner that had appeared to take a wrong turn...that looked SO uncomfortable. :)

Bumpers, wheels, winch, skid plates, flares? I see nothing wrong with this. It doesn’t have to be a trail slayer to have more utility than stock. Where my aunt lives, these modifications would work very well on her (albeit 4wd) Cherokee. Bumpers for deer out the ass, skid plates for dirt roads with fallen trees (literally all the time around her), winch has countless benefits, flares are a little cheesy, i’ll admit.

To each their own, I guess.

Well the wheels are certainly not better for on or off road driving and are just for style. But my question is - why drop the money for these upgrades when you didn’t spend the extra 1800$ or whatever it was to get the 4x4 system? ANd at that trim level, you get Quadra-trac II while the lower trim levels only get Quadra-trac 1 (no locking diffs I think) so fine, it’s your “style” but your style is blatant posing. And if that truck had 4WD then those mods would actually help a TON for off-roading. Whether or not you did it is another story entirely.

Kinja'd!!! Justino6969 > themanwithsauce - has as many vehicles as job titles

Kinja'd!!!0

I’m not sure how better bumpers and a skid plate is “blatant posing,” especially since I already listed why they would be beneficial in the part of the country where I’m at. 4WD doesn’t stop a deer from destroying your front end. That bumper does. 4WD doesn’t stop trees and large rocks from tearing up your underside. A skid plate does. I agree with you that buying any utility vehicle without 4WD is stupid, but it is far from a ‘useless pile of parts.’

Kinja'd!!! themanwithsauce - has as many vehicles as job titles > Justino6969
04/21/2016 at 13:35

Kinja'd!!!0

If the GC was body on frame, your bumper argument would hold weight. But since it’s a unibody, you’re still going to suffer damage from the force of an impact with a half ton object. And what roads do you travel on that it’s considered a worthwhile investment for skid plates?

As for the poser remarks - the protection these parts give you is really irrelevant on paved roads. But off road, yes they’d be great. However, with no 4WD system of any kind, this vehicle will most certainly NOT be off road where they would be used. Hence, it is a poser.

Then it sounds like you might want 4WD to get out of low traction situations like snow and mud before you put on skid plates to go boulder crawling in your spare time. I have a feeling one is far more likely than the other.
